The nonprofit Center for Internet Security (CIS) has launched free cybersecurity advising services for under-resourced local organizations as well as state, tribal and territorial ones.

Many of CIS’s members lack the resources required to protect their data from sophisticated cyber threats. They need access to cyber expertise to increase their cyber maturity and reduce their cyber risks. In response, the Cybersecurity Infrastructure and Security Agency (CISA) funded CIS to provide the Cybersecurity Advisory Services Program (CASP) to help CIS members enhance their cyber posture.

CASP addresses these challenges by providing cyber expertise to those that do not have it and cannot afford it. Priority scheduling is given to cyber-underserved U.S. state, local, tribal or territorial entities (SLTTs) hosting systems in sectors designated as high priority by CISA: water, wastewater, elections, healthcare and K-12. There is no cost for services for members of the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) or Elections Infrastructure Information Sharing and Analysis Center (EI-ISAC), both of which are free for relevant government entities. Participants are given access to cybersecurity experts. Services include:

  • Community Advisory: A cyber advisor provides a community of members with an overview of a cyber topic and facilitates a peer-to-peer discussion.
  • Member Advisory: A cyber advisor answers a member’s questions to help the member make decisions or take actions to enhance their cyber posture.
