The City of Sanford recently held its first exhibit opening of the Employee Art Gallery. Residents had the opportunity to meet the talented and creative employees whose art is on display. “After Hours” is the third public art installation in City Hall, managed by the Public Art Commission and part of the City’s Art in Public Places program.
The employees shared their inspirations behind each art piece during the official opening. A diverse array of artwork is exhibited, featuring current and retired Sanford employees representing many City departments. The works of art on display share a variety of mediums, including acrylic and oil painting, photography, ceramics and stitchwork. On weekdays, employees work tirelessly providing citizens with high-quality municipal services. In their “After Hours,” many employees and retirees turn their attention to artistic expression. This exhibit celebrates these talented artists, who show the same commitment to fine arts as they do to public service.
This exhibit is meant to rotate, with new employee artwork installed periodically. The new gallery is at City Hall, 300 N. Park Ave., in the Utility Department hallway. The location allows public viewing during City Hall hours of operation, Monday to Thursday 7:00 a.m. -5:30 p.m. ET.
