The Sunny Spaces Art Contest was created to celebrate the City of Sunny Isles Beach’s 25th Anniversary, spearheaded by the City’s Public Art Program. Artists were asked to paint or draw an original piece that incorporated the theme of the sun. From all the entries, 25 submissions were selected to be featured as a public art installation in the City.
“Sunny Spaces is more than just an art contest; it’s a movement to unite our community through art,” the City said in a released statement. “We believe that art should be accessible to everyone, and Sunny Spaces aims to achieve that.”
The City recently unveiled the winning artwork at Gateway Artway in an event that coincided with World Art Day. Artists, their families, local leaders and members of the public came together to appreciate the impact these artworks will have on Sunny Isles Beach.
In addition to the Gateway Artway, five pieces from the top five winners are located around the city as part of the new Sunny Spaces Art Quest. This fun and interactive scavenger hunt contains riddles to help art enthusiasts find the art at locations around the City. At City facilities, residents and visitors were provided with palm cards holding all the clues, as well as the designated website, sibfl.net/sunnyspaces.
“The Sunny Spaces Art Contest is not a just one-time event; it’s an ongoing commitment to showcasing local talent and enriching our City with art,” the statement said. “We are dedicated to continuing this initiative to keep our community vibrant with creativity and culture.”
