On June 1, Mayor Lenny Curry of the City of Jacksonville joined representatives of the City Council to dedicate Tommy Hazouri, Sr. Park. The renamed park will honor the accomplishments and service of former Mayor Tommy Hazouri Sr.

In addition to Curry, the dedication was attended by Mayor-Elect Donna Deegan, Council Members Sam Newby and Michael Boylan and Daryl Joseph, Director of Parks, Recreation and Community Services.

Hazouri, 76, died on Sept. 11, 2021. He served as Mayor of the City of Jacksonville from 1987-1991. He also was a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1974-1986 and a Duval County School Board member from 2004-2012. While in the Florida Legislature, he was Chairman of the Duval Legislative Delegation. He was appointed to the Florida Ethics Commission and was Chair of the Sheriff’s Mental Health and Crisis Episodes Task Force. As Mayor, he led the effort to eliminate the tolls from Jacksonville’s roads and bridges. Hazouri served Jacksonville again as an At-Large City Councilman. He was a member of Mandarin Presbyterian Church.
