The Town of La Crosse is 4.6 square miles and has a population of about 300 people. The Town where “everybody knows everybody” was recently profiled by WUFT.

In March, the local election was cancelled when no one ran against the incumbents. Mayor Dianne Dubberly, a lifelong resident of La Crosse, has run unopposed since she joined the Town Council, which was 13 years before she was elected Mayor in 1999.

The Mayor successfully secured millions in state funding for several projects that included wider sidewalks, accessible ramps, new welcome signs and pedestrian street lighting on the Town’s main road. She also saw an official town hall building established. A walking trail was completed in 2022. A vegetable grower’s warehouse has been converted to a Dollar General.

Crystal Phillips, Town Clerk, keeps the Council updated and seeks out grants and other ways to improve the community. The Town is known for being a peaceful and quiet place to life, Phillips said.

One Dollar General employee said she routinely sees the same people in the store, and a bond forms. “It’s kind of like a family,” she said.
