Four water towers in the City of Lake Wales are being designed to reflect the City’s heritage. The water tower on Highway 27 at the Eagle Ridge Mall was the first to be painted with artwork paying homage to the Lake Wales High School Highlanders.

The Market Street water tower in the downtown historic core features artwork reflecting the City’s “City in a Garden” initiative. That initiative was established in the 1920s by renowned landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead Jr. and the City’s founding town planners.

The water tower next to Lake Wales High School will also include artwork paying homage to the Lake Wales Highlanders. It is scheduled to be painted in 2025 or 2026.

The fourth water tower on the south side of Lake Wales will feature artwork that reflects sports represented in Lake Wales.

Holly Britt, the City’s Utility Operations Manager, is overseeing the project. Britt says the reason the look of the water towers is important is because “the towers show the character of our City.”

The City has added a water tower every 15 to 20 years, which is a testimony to the City’s growth over the last half-century.
