The Green Cove Springs Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) installed four new historical plaques at key locations throughout the City of Green Cove Springs, marking the former sites of the city’s most notable historic hotels: The Oakland, The Muldrow, The Clarendon, and The Qui-Si-Sana.

These plaques celebrate the City of Green Cove Springs’ rich heritage as a popular destination during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when visitors from across the country traveled to the area to enjoy the healing spring waters, beautiful scenery, and warm hospitality.

Each plaque includes a QR code that visitors can scan with their mobile devices to access expanded information about each hotel, including historical photos, stories, and the unique role each establishment played in the city’s development.

This project was developed and funded by the Green Cove Springs CRA and was inspired by community feedback gathered during a public workshop held in July 2024, where residents collaborated to identify meaningful ways to share the city’s history with the public.

“We’re excited to bring our city’s history into everyday spaces,” said Heather Boucher, Chair of the Green Cove Springs CRA. “These plaques allow both residents and visitors to learn about and engage with the fascinating stories that shaped the City of Green Cove Springs.”

The Green Cove Springs CRA invites everyone to visit the plaque locations and scan the QR codes to explore the past. Visitors and residents are also encouraged to take photos with the plaques and share them on social media by tagging the city, helping to bring local history to life for the broader community.
