The City of North Miami is one of two Small City category winners for the Nutrition Access Affordability and Education Grant program. This achievement is part of the laudable initiative spearheaded by the African American Mayors Association (AAMA) and the American Beverage Foundation for a Healthy America (ABFHA).
North Miami’s noteworthy achievement is rooted in the leadership of Mayor Alix Desulme, who founded The NoMi Food Pantry in 2019. A groundbreaking resolution, sponsored by then-Councilman Desulme and unanimously passed by the North Miami City Council, established the pantry under the management of the City’s Housing and Social Services Department. The pantry’s mission is to end hunger and poverty in North Miami by promoting healthy eating and nutritious education.
As a Small City category winner, the City is receiving $75,000. That award will be instrumental in advancing existing programs and launching initiatives to improve nutrition access, affordability and education.
