The City of Kissimmee has been named the 2026 Community Champion by The Opportunity Center, an honor recognizing the City’s partnership and ongoing support of individuals with developmental disabilities.

The recognition highlights a relationship built on more than funding. Through the City’s social services grant program, The Opportunity Center can carry out its mission to serve individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Osceola County. The organization’s programs offer training, employment opportunities, and independent living support, helping participants develop daily living, social, and job skills while building greater independence.

Kissimmee’s support doesn’t stop at the checkbook. The City also supports volunteer opportunities that allow Opportunity Center participants to give back to their own community, including participating in local clean-up efforts and taking pride in the neighborhoods they help maintain.

The partnership extends into everyday life as well, with inclusive programming including swimming, dancing, karaoke, and bingo. These activities are designed to help ensure participants feel seen, valued, and included as full members of the community.

The Community Champion recognition reflects a wider priority for Kissimmee’s City Commission, which has continued to invest in social services that strengthen the community’s support systems. Alongside programs like those offered through The Opportunity Center, the City’s efforts include work to address homelessness, mental health, substance abuse treatment, and family case management.
