The Public Works Complex at 5100 NE 12th Terrace, which officially opened in February, has been honored with the Project of the Year award in the Buildings and Grounds category by the American Public Works Association, Florida Chapter. The $26.5 million complex consolidates essential city services under one roof, including Public Works Operations and Administration, an Emergency Operations Center, and divisions responsible for water, wastewater, stormwater, solid waste, street and park maintenance, facilities, and fleet services.

The grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony in February brought together elected officials, city leaders, staff, and community members to celebrate the completion of the modern 43,000-square-foot facility. Mayor Tim Lonergan emphasized the long-term impact of the project, noting its role in strengthening city infrastructure, improving emergency response, and expanding public green space. The relocation of Public Works from its former site at 3801 NE 5th Avenue will allow the city to add five acres of land to City Centennial Park, further increasing recreational opportunities for the community.

More than just a state-of-the-art facility, the Public Works Complex is a key component of a broader strategy to modernize city infrastructure, improve service delivery, and enhance public spaces as Oakland Park prepares for its centennial in 2029. Over the past decade, Oakland Park has made significant investments in municipal facilities to create a more resilient, efficient, and vibrant city.
